HOW TO BECOME A GOOD TRUCK DRIVER IN NIGERIA (SERIES 1)

Truck driving is a very lucrative job across the world. In Nigeria, it pays more than a banking job (click). Truck driving is not just a job,
it is a lifestyle. It is the only job that can make you a tourist and at the same time a driver. However, there are various challenges being faced by logistics companies when it comes to truck drivers in Nigeria, it includes but not limited to high rate of illiteracy, poor maintenance culture, lack of road etiquette, high level of alcohol /drug use, poor personal hygiene, high rate of dishonesty, lack of probity, an unpardonable lackadaisical attitude et cetera.
For the entire series of this article, i will be writing on how you can become a good truck driver in Nigeria and how that will eventually help you to increase your income greatly. Series 1 will be devoted to the basic things you need before you take up the truck wheel and the traits you need to possess before taking up the job.

If you want to be a good and successful truck driver in Nigeria, the most important trait you need is “passion”. Just like any other job, if you are not passionate about it, it will become very boring and frustrating and these can affect your efficiency. You need to be clear about your intention and that can be fired by your desire to drive a truck. Secondly, you need “honesty”. Honesty is the only content that is lacking in this industry. Honesty is the only trait that can make you successful in any job you engage in. If you are honesty, you have solved over 50% of the problem in the haulage business. Honesty is so key that honesty=good in the article’s topic. If you feel you are not honesty, please don’t bother going for truck driving. Thirdly, you need a good truck driving school. A truck driving school will take you through both the theoretical and practical aspect of truck driving. The school will help you with the mechanical, electrical and maintenance aspect of trucks. A truck driving school will also equip you with the rules and regulation that needs to be followed while driving on the road. A truck driving school can also be an employment hub for truck drivers or intending truck drivers because companies prefers to hire directly from the school. Lastly, you must be +18years above!
I will take a pause here for today. Just to recap, if you want to be a good truck driver you need; passion, honesty , a good truck driving school and above 18 years. See you next time, cheers!
