THE LIGHT-UP LAGOS PROJECT: A SIMPLE SOLUTION TO A COMPLEX PROBLEM

Dear readers please kindly take a minute to imagine a place like Oshodi, Agege and Iyana-paja at night without street lights , ...
the normal traffic congestion, traders selling with their lanterns on , Agbero fighting and smoking and yet thousands of people are moving up and down just to get a bus home. Please stop that self-inflicted dream, it’s too late to go back to Egypt *smile*. This is the new Lagos and it has come to STAY!

The Light-up Lagos project for me is a “simple solution to a very complex problem” thanks to the Lagos state governor Akinwunmi Ambode for his wisdom. Lagos at night before this initiative by the ruling political party in the state was a nightmare for both the road users and traders, men of the under-world take charge during this time and trust me it is hell. There is a story of a guy who had his phone removed from his pocket only to discover that he is still hearing music from his ear-piece 1min after the incident, just after realizing what had happened, the dude said “na wa ooo na only Lagos way dem go steal your phone and u go still dey hear music from your ear-piece” lol.
With the Light-up Lagos project, crime rate has drastically reduced, it has encouraged what we term “night economy” , it has reduced unnecessaryroad traffic and more importantly truck drivers can now take their time to plan for trips at night. Trucks loading from Sango-Ota for example can now move their goods at night seamless through Agege corridor to link Lagos-Ibadan express way because of the poor state of “Papalanto Road” this can only be made easy through the Light-up Lagos project (click to also appreciate the light up lagos project) .
A point to also note is that it has the Area boys now behave normally at night unlike before were they smoke their beloved marijuana anywhere without any fear of consequences.

The Light-up Lagos project can only be improved and extended to various streets across Lagos State because the result has shown that crime can indeed be reduced and that the vision of Lagos being a mega city is not a mirage but a reality in our very eyes.
